Feeling festive!

12 days left so I thought I'd post some Christmassy pictures up that I have taken out and about.

A tucked away street in Richmond, cosy with fairy lights and lanterns.

A florist's door that i love, from the colour to all the wreaths hanging.

Window display in sotre 'Gant' I love the image of the Christmas tree in the bakground, reminds me of Jane's which I will be uploading pictures of soon!

Cinema Glamour

I really love glamourous imagery and female icons in 20s, 30s and 40s films.  I particularly like black and white films and those inspired by the East, like Cleopatera or Biblical films.  Flamboyant backdrops, elaborate costumes and tales of kings, queens and temptresses.
Film director Cecil B DeMille directed many of these types of films I am posting about.

Hedy Lamaar in 'Samson and Delilah'  I love the peacock print on her skirt and the cuffs add to the glamour.

Agian I love the costume, gold on red on this tunic/sari and the pearls hanging from her hair.

The fancy throne that the Queen of Sheba (Betty Blythe) sits on and her heavy lace and beaded tunic.

From 'The Golden Bed' the extravagence of this winged, elaborate gold bed, I love the gold ornament and the curtains draping over the bed.

I love this bathroom!

Baroque, Ornament and Grandeur.

Was browsing the net and saw these dresses by Alexander McQueen and immediately saw a Rococco theme running through them which I really love and also find inspiring in my work, from the colours, to the fabric and mostly the pattern.  I love the use of embellishment in work and love the look of gold, tapestry, feathers,brocade and chains.  Here McQueen has used silk, satin, crystals sequins to create sumptuous and over the top dresses.

I absolutley love the image above and how real it looks.  There are only a few colours though, I love the use of clever shading and the fancy frame.

Baroque celing.

This image is not really Baroque, more Egyptian or Japanese but I love the elaborate decorations on the dress anyway.

A gorgeous wallpaper but I think it would look even better as tiles on one wall in a bathroom.

London in December!

25 days till Christmas and I thought I'd head to Central London to feel the buzz, excitement and and festivities!

Not very Christmassy but pretty all the same, tucked behind the palms and foliage and away from the crowds, Café Momos.

I love the Jack Wills Christmas window display of winter berries and ivy.

Reindeers on Carnaby Street.

Gorgeous as usual,  I loved the atmosphere at Liberty's, cosy, with warm lighting and an ecclectic mix of the new and old all in one.

 bespoke woven chairs.

Or a folk theme with brightly coloured embroidery of flowers on black.

Metal cutout lampshades, with filigree lace like patterns.

Or japanese print style paper for lamspades.  Cosy!

Magical canopy lighting.

Circus coloured decorations.

Or a white wall of icicles, snowflakes, baubles and stars and glitter!

Frosted winter berries.

'Bijou and Beautiful' repeats

I am currently working on some wallpaper in the 'bijou and beautiful' range I have been working on for a while. It is based on luxurious jewellery including pendants, chatelaines, brooches and bejwelled daggers. Here are some repeat patterns and designs I have created.

As you can see, I love Van Gogh's work. I love his ability to capture light and dark and the look of hot and cold with his use of colour and his brush strokes.

Glass collections

I love the glass collection at the V&A, a mix of Bohemian vases, Persian perfume bottles, elegant chandeliers, large sea like sculptures by Chihuly, fine tablewear and quirky paperweights. I also enjoy painting glass objects, particuliary valuable beautiful ones like ornate perfume bottles and vases inlaid with gold and other objects with iridescent or sparkly qualities...
